On September 4, 2019, the world was treated to one of the dumbest moments done by a president of the U.S. in U.S. history.
President Donald Trump took a sharpie and altered a map with the projected path of hurricane Dorian, just so he wouldn’t lose face over an incorrect tweet.
You see, Trump tweeted out on September 1 that Hurricane Dorian was headed towards Florida and would hit Alabama. He was corrected by The National Weather Service which said that Alabama will not see “any impacts from Hurricane #Dorian” because it will “remain too far east”.
Trump insisted that the hurricane would, in fact, touch Alabama in numerous tweets, and when the NOAA created a map of the hurricane path that Trump displayed in the Oval Office, he added a small bubble to the hurricane path so it looks like it will hit Alabama.
The “bubble” that Trump made was even a different color than the white path on the map, so it was very clear that it had been altered.
I mean, did the President actually think that people wouldn’t realize the map was altered?
The only silver lining to SharpieGate was, of course, the memes!
The Twitter-sphere suggested other ways that the President can alter history and they used the Sharpie in the most hilarious ways possible!
