Michigan Teenager Expected to Testify at Rape Trial Is Found Dead

A teenager found dead in the woods in Kalamazoo, Mich. was set to testify in an alleged rapist’s trial in April.

Mujey Dumbuya, who was 16 when she died, had accused Quinn Anthony James of raping her.

Now, he’s a person of interest in Dumbuya’s death, WWMT.com reported.

James, 42, a career criminal, was scheduled to be tried as a habitual offender, according to court records obtained by WWMT.

He had also been ordered to stay away from Dumbuya, whose body was found by a couple out for a walk on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety investigators immediately labeled her death as suspicious.

An investigation into her death is ongoing, according to authorities.

Dumbuya told police that James, who was her boyfriend’s uncle, raped her in a car in a school parking lot.

Just before she was violated, her alleged attacker said: “There is something about you. I could stop, but I just can’t.”

Dumbuya accused James of forcing her to have sex multiple times beginning when she was 15 years old.

James was arrested in November and admitted to having sex with Dumbuya outside of Ridge Park Charter Academy in Grand Rapids, where his nephew was a student, court records obtained by WWMT show.

James was arrested last week in connection to a 2014 rape case.

He was an employee at Kentwood Public Schools until the most recent rape allegation came to light in 2017.
