Jean is an Australian mother that goes by the TikTok handle @Jeanchronicles. She recently went on to criticize a toy company for ‘exaggeratig’ facial features on the black dolls, but not on the white dolls.
She shared a video of ‘anatomically correct’ Miniland Dolls she found in a toy shop. The black dolls had larger lips, larger nose, and longer lorehad than the white dolls.
The mom wrote that this is what buying black dolls in Australia is like, and you can check out the video for yourself below.
@jeanchronicles It’s the exaggerated nose,forehead and mouth for me😭🥺 #minilanddolls #fyp #diverse ♬ Spongebob Tomfoolery – Dante9k Remix – David Snell
One commenter wrote that although it’s sort of accurate for a teen or an adult to have these features, it’s not proportional for a baby. Another one noted that although they don’t agree with the dolls, some people really do have these features, and they’d buy it to celebrate diversity.
Additionally, many users wrote that Kmart offers a diverse range of dolls to its customers and they’re really cute.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about representation, but how we are presented is equally important.
