The hashtag started on Friday in response to news that Karen Pence, the second lady of the United States, was teaching art at the Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Virginia – a school which teaches that homosexuality is ‘immoral’, and is therefore bad.
Twitter user Chris Stroop started the hashtag in order to call out Mike Pence and David French, a conservative writer who defended the school’s policies.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote:
Hey fellow Christian school grads, let’s tell @VP and @DavidAFrench how traumatizing those bastions of bigotry are. Use the hashtag #ExposeChristianSchools @amandablount2 @300ZXNA @TheCheekyGinger @msnbc#ChristianAltFacts #EmptyThePews #Exvangelical #LGBTQ #FaithfullyLGBT

#ExposeChristianSchools The bullying was intense, specifically for boys who weren't "manly". In the locker room, coaches would walk out when "soft" boys were getting towel-whipped in the shower or heads flushed in the commodes.

I don’t know if I can properly address all the ways to #exposechristianschools. But here it goes. History classes never reviewed the American Indians’ cultures or the timeline of the Civil Rights Movemenet. Yay white-washed history. 🤢

I don't remember learning about civil rights or the holocaust, but they sure did hammer into us how to convert other people. Other topics: why Catholics are going to hell and why 1990s Hillary Clinton was the antichrist. Yeah…

My school had Slave Day. Each year the jr class was auctioned off in the chapel; the auctioneer – a teacher – held a whip. Other students would “own” them for a day. Was a fundraiser. Couldn’t have prom/dances, but we had Slave Day. #ExposeChristianSchools @brchastain @C_Stroop
