President Donald Trump made a reference to an extremist group at the first presidential debate named ‘Proud Boys’, and the term was trending on Twitter in the last few days. However, if you search for #ProudBoys, you’ll be presently surprised!
Although the hashtag was recently used in tweets pertaining to the far right, namely a Southern Poverty Law Center hate group called the Proud Boys, members of the LGBTQ+ community got things into their own hands and decided to redefine the meaning of it. The hashtag was flooded with messages of love, acceptance, positivity, and gay-pride!
When I met this man we weren’t allowed to marry. The law changed & we had our trip to the registry office & our official day of love because society changed -is still changing- thanks to all the brave allies of all genders & loving families & #ProudBoys #LoveMakesTheWorldGoRound pic.twitter.com/rOQTJ07bP5
